What’s on the Specification
编组 4 编组 4
P3.1 Kinematics:

  1. Know and understand the difference between scalar and vector quantities.
  2. Know and understand the difference between distance and displacement and between speed and velocity.
  3. Know and be able to apply: $\text{speed} = \dfrac{\text{distance}}{\text{time}}$, $\text{velocity} = \dfrac{\text{change in displacement}}{\text{time}}$.
  4. Know and be able to apply: $\text{acceleration} = \dfrac{\text{change in velocity}}{\text{time}}$.
  5. Interpret distance–time, displacement–time, speed–time and velocity–time graphs.
  6. Perform calculations using gradients and areas under graphs.
  7. Know and be able to apply: $\text{average speed} = \dfrac{\text{total distance}}{\text{time}}$.
  8. Know and be able to apply the equation of motion: $v^{2}-u^{2}=2as$.
Learning Objectives

  • Define and distinguish between key kinematic quantities: distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and acceleration, identifying them as scalars or vectors.
  • Interpret and perform calculations using distance-time, displacement-time, speed-time, and velocity-time graphs, including finding gradients and areas.
  • Know, derive, and apply the equations of motion for uniform acceleration (SUVAT equations) in one dimension and for free-fall.
  • Analyse projectile motion by resolving initial velocity into horizontal and vertical components and applying SUVAT equations independently.
  • Understand and apply the concept of relative velocity in 1D and simple 2D scenarios.
