C06 Matter and Materials

What’s on the Specification
编组 4 编组 4
P3.3 Force and extension:

  1. Interpret force–extension graphs.
  2. Understand elastic and inelastic extension, and elastic limits.
  3. Know and be able to apply Hooke’s law ($\mathrm{F = kx}$) and understand the meaning of the limit of proportionality.
  4. Understand energy stored in a stretched spring as: $\mathrm{E = \frac{1}{2}Fx = \frac{1}{2}kx^{2}}$
P5.4 Density:

  1. Know and be able to apply: $\mathrm{density = \frac{mass}{volume}}$, $\mathrm{\rho = \frac{m}{v}}$
  2. Understand the experimental determination of densities.
  3. Be able to compare the densities of solids, liquids and gases.
P5.5 Pressure:

  1. Know and be able to apply: $\mathrm{Pressure = \frac{Force}{Area}}$
  2. Know and be able to apply: $\mathrm{hydrostatic\ pressure = hpg}$, where $\mathrm{h}$ is the height, or depth, of the liquid.
